Stillhouse, based in Columbia, SC plays original music and has a large and diverse repertoire of music from artists such as The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Gillian Welch, The Rolling Stones, Patty Loveless, Taj Mahal, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Phish, The Who, Stevie Wonder, and many more. Stillhouse features Jenn McCallister on lead vocals; Mike Mahoney on bass and vocals; Greg Bates on lead vocals, guitar, and harmonica; and Chris Jones on drums and vocals. The band was formed in Columbia in early 2004 with core members Greg Bates, Jenn McCallister, and Mike Mahoney. Drummer Chris Jones joined the band later in 2004. Each member brings unique talents and experiences to Stillhouse. Stillhouse plays regularly to full houses and dancing crowds at The Red Tub, The Utopia Grill, Five Points After Five, Cafe Strudel, The Mellow Mushroom, Mac’s on Main, Minglewood, Cumberland’s (Charleston) and many other local venues. The band is currently working on new original material for their upcoming CD. Jenn McCallister - Lead Vocals, Percussion - Jenn McCallister provided lead and backing vocals with the Zen Tricksters and appeared on the Trickster's album "A Love Surreal". She has appeared alongside a number of local artists including Troubadour X. In addition Jenn has had a lead role - as Mary Magdalene - in the Columbia, SC all-star production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Jenn began singing at a young age and has never stopped. Her passion for music and singing is evidenced in her performances and adds a critical dimension to Stillhouse. The broad range of her musical influences includes blues, soul, gospel, rock, country, and bluegrass. She writes and composes original material for the band (Take Your Coat, Treat You Right, and Sunday Stash) on her own and also collaborates on new material with bassist Mike Mahoney, guitarist Greg Bates and lyricist Nick Meriwether. Mike Mahoney - Bass, Vocals - Mike Mahoney has been playing bass and guitar for over 33 years, most notably in the Northern Virginia-based New Potato Caboose during its mid- to late 80's heyday, as well as in Wood n' Steel, Radio Mosaic, and in innumerable studio projects. Mike was also the regular bassist for Fatback and the Groove Band and Mac's Allstars at Mac's on Main in Columbia for many years. Mike also writes and composes original material for Stillhouse and also works with Jenn McCallister and lyricist Nick Meriwether in creating new songs for the band. Greg Bates - Lead Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica - Greg Bates appeared (along with LaToya Glover) in Greg & LaToya. His most recent solo effort, Meconium, showcases his brilliant capabilities as a singer, songwriter, and composer. Greg's stage presence, fiery enthusiasm, and creative abilities lend a lot of energy to Stillhouse. Chris Jones - Drums, Vocals - Chris Jones has appeared in a number of local bands, including Analog Moon and the influential ensemble Death to Van Gogh's Ear, one of the best local Columbia acts that emerged in the late 90s. He has been playing drums for over ten years, and also appeared along with Jenn McCallister in "Jesus Christ Superstar" in 2004 and 2005. |
